農家 [nóng jiā] [nong jia]—
1. A family (家庭 [jia ting]) whose occupation (務農 [wu nong]) is farming. Chapter 118 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三國演義 [san guo yan yi]》): "I heard that Deng Ai (鄧艾 [deng ai]) came from humble origins and, as a child, herded calves for a farming household."
2. An academic school of thought (學術流派 [xue shu liu pai]) during the pre-Qin (先秦 [xian qin]) period. It advocated for encouraging farming (農耕 [nong geng]) to ensure sufficient food and clothing (衣食 [yi shi]). From Treatise on Literature (《藝文志 [yi wen zhi]》), Volume 30 of Book of Han (《漢書 [han shu]》): "The school of Agriculturists likely originated from the officials of Agriculture and Millet (農稷之官 [nong ji zhi guan]), who sowed the hundred grains and encouraged farming (耕桑 [geng sang]) to ensure sufficient food and clothing."
3. Farmhouse (農舍 [nong she]). For example: "The farming household behind the bamboo fence is a simple siheyuan (四合院 [si he yuan])-style building."
農家:1.務農為業的家庭。《三國演義》第一一八回:「愚聞鄧艾出身微賤,幼為農家養犢。」
2.先秦時期的一個學術流派。主張勸農耕以足衣食。《漢書.卷三○.藝文志》:「農家者流,蓋出於農稷之官,播百穀,勸耕桑,以足衣食。」

I. From Yuan Dynasty (元 [yuan]) poet Bai Ben's (白賁 [bai bi]) 'Parrot Song' (鸚鵡曲 [ying wu qu]): 'I live by Parrot Island (鸚鵡洲 [ying wu zhou]), an unlettered fisherman (漁父 [yu fu]).'
