Source: ORA: Amanaska (king of all yogas): A Critical Edition and Annotated Translation by Jason BirchNivāryamāṇa (निवार्यमाण) refers to “being deliberately restrained”, according to the Amanaska Yoga treatise dealing with meditation, absorption, yogic powers and liberation.—Accordingly, as Īśvara says to Vāmadeva: “[...] The breath, which cannot be held [for long] while being deliberately restrained (nivāryamāṇa), spontaneously remains [held] because of the arising of the natural [no-mind] state. [...]”.
