Nelvadari in the Kannada language possibly refers to Bhūpāṭalī, an unidentified medicinal plant, possibly identified with Padali (in Marathi), Nelvadari (in Kannada) or Tikapana (in Gujarati), according to verse 5.129 of the 13th-century Raj Nighantu or Rājanighaṇṭu. The fifth chapter (parpaṭādi-varga) of this book enumerates sixty varieties of smaller plants (kṣudra-kṣupa). Other than the Kannada word Nelvadari, there are more synonyms identified for this plant among which three are in Sanskrit.
