Nāyakavāḍi.—(SITI), Sanskrit-Tamil; watchmen stationed by the State or landlord to keep watch over the crops before or during harvest time; the inām granted to such persons was known as kākku-nāyaka-viḻāgam. Note: nāyakavāḍi is defined in the “Indian epigraphical glossary” as it can be found on ancient inscriptions commonly written in Sanskrit, Prakrit or Dravidian languages.
