The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.

Navānanda (नवानन्द) refers to “novel bliss”, according to the Śāmbhavakramasūtra verse 4.271cd-276ab.— Accordingly, “Śāmbhava is common to all things (and to all the Kaula traditions sarvasāmānya). It is where the universe is merged (in its foundation). The location at the end of the Transmental, it is pervasive and omnipresent. Śāmbhava, the Lord of the Circle, is accompanied by Bimbanātha. It is the Wheel of the Topknot of the supreme power and is adorned with (ever) novel bliss (navānanda). Accompanied by Śāmbhavīśakti, it is auspicious, like a stream of milk. [...]”.
