1. To become wet; to be moistened, soaked; ஈரமாதல் நனைகவுள் யானையால் யானையாத் தற்று [iramathal nanaigavul yanaiyal yanaiyath tharru] (திருக்குறள் [thirukkural], 678).

2. To bud; அரும்புதல். பிடவ மலரத் தளவ நனைய [arumbuthal. pidava malarath thalava nanaiya] (ஐங்குறுநூறு [aingurunuru] 499).
