Nalinīdala (नलिनीदल) refers to the “petal of a lotus”, according to the 11th century Jñānārṇava, a treatise on Jain Yoga in roughly 2200 Sanskrit verses composed by Śubhacandra.—Accordingly, “Truly, life perishes exceedingly quickly like water lying in the hand [and] youth perishes like snow passes from the petal of a lotus (nalinīdala-saṃkrānta)”.
