Nāgasvāmin (नागस्वामिन्) is the name of a Brāhman from Kuṇḍina, as mentioned in the Kathāsaritsāgara, chapter 108. Accordingly, as Nāgasvāmin said to Gomukha in his hermitage called Śivakṣetra: “... I am a Brāhman named Nāgasvāmin, from a city called Kuṇḍina. When my father went to heaven, I went to Pāṭaliputra, and repaired to a teacher named Jayadatta, to acquire learning...”.

The Kathāsaritsāgara (‘ocean of streams of story’), mentioning Nāgasvāmin, is a famous Sanskrit epic story revolving around prince Naravāhanadatta and his quest to become the emperor of the vidyādharas (celestial beings). The work is said to have been an adaptation of Guṇāḍhya’s Bṛhatkathā consisting of 100,000 verses, which in turn is part of a larger work containing 700,000 verses.

Paṇḍita Nāgasvāmin (fl. 1139 A.D.) is the name of a Brāhmaṇa mentioned in the “Panhāle plates of Vikramāditya”. Accordingly, “And this has been written by me, who have been appointed by the King, (viz.) the Brāhmaṇa Lakṣmīdhara Paṇḍita, son of the illustrious Paṇḍita Nāgasvāmin, with the consent of the Sāndhivigrahika”.

These copper plates (mentioning Nāgasvāmin) were found at Panhāle in the Dāpolī-tālukā of the Ratnāgiri District. It records a grant made by Aparāditya for the spiritual welfare of his son, the prince (Kumāra) Vikramāditya. It was made by Aparāditya on the occasion of a lunar eclipse, on Monday, the 15th tithi of the bright fortnight of Āśvina in the expired Śaka year 1061.
