Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationNādamaya (नादमय) refers to “that which consists of Nāda”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.48 (“Description of Marriage of Śiva and Pārvatī”).—Accordingly, as Nārada said to Himavat (Himācala): “[...] Śiva is identical with Nāda (nādamaya). And Nāda is identical with Śiva. There is no difference between the two—Nāda and Śiva. O lord of mountains, Nāda being prior to Śiva in His sportive, attributive form, Nāda is the most excellent of all. Hence, O Himācala, mentally urged by Śiva, the lord of all, I played upon my lute”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
