妙不可言 [miào bù kě yán] [miao bu ke yan]—
So wonderful it's hard to describe (奇妙得難以述說 [qi miao de nan yi shu shuo]). The phrase originates from Guo Pu's (郭璞 [guo pu]) "Rhapsody on the River" (〈江賦 [jiang fu]〉) during the Jin (晉 [jin]) Dynasty: "Its marvels cannot be exhausted by words, its phenomena cannot be fully explored by affairs (妙不可盡之於言 [miao bu ke jin zhi yu yan],事不可窮之於事 [shi bu ke qiong zhi yu shi])." In Chapter 59 of "Records of the States of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty" (《東周列國志 [dong zhou lie guo zhi]》), "Gongzi Ce (公子側 [gong zi ce]) understood his intention, drank it all in one gulp, and felt it to be sweet and fragrant (甘香 [gan xiang]), refreshingly stimulating (快噪 [kuai zao]), and beyond description."
