Mēṟcāttu (மேற்சாத்து) [mēṟ-cāttu] noun < idem. + சாத்து². [sathu².]

1. Upper garment; அங்கவஸ்திரம். வேழங் கொடுத்ததொரு மேற்சாத்தும் [angavasthiram. vezhang koduthathoru mersathum] (ஏகாம்பாநாதருலா [egambanatharula], 203).

2. Ornaments worn over the kavacam of an idol, etc.; விக்கிரகம் முதலியவற்றிற்குக் கவசத்தின் மேற் புறஞ் சாத்தும் அணி. [vikkiragam muthaliyavarrirkug kavasathin mer puragn sathum ani.] Local usage
