mēhamana (मेहमन) [or मेहमान, mēhamāna].—m ( P) A guest, a person invited, or a stranger dropping in, to accept hospitality. mēhamāna differs from pāhuṇā q. v. 2 A person residing as a cultivator in a village in which he has no hereditary possession, and in which therefore he is viewed as a stranger or sojourner. 3 (esp. in the district of sāvantavāḍī) A respectable person fostered by Government, whether for service rendered or as a favorite, a Government-pensioner.
