Marmacikitsa (मर्मचिकित्स) refers to “pressure point therapy” or “acupuncture”.—It is a traditional Ayurvedic massage technique that is believed to help sustain the flow of energy throughout the body. Marmas are vital energy points located in the body at junctions of tissues like muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, ligaments, or bones. Obstructions in these points cause disease or discomfort. Marma knowledge is used for both combat and healing. Masters in Kalaripayattu expertly manipulate these points for treatment.
