From Song Dynasty (宋 [song]) Su Shunqin's (蘇舜欽 [su shun qin]) "Letter to Provincial Envoy Ye Daoqing Regarding the Imperial Examination" (應制科上省使葉道卿書 [ying zhi ke shang sheng shi ye dao qing shu]): "I presumptuously wish to put myself forward with my meager (空乏 [kong fa]) and humble (鄙陋 [bi lou]) qualifications." From "Flowers in the Mirror" (鏡花緣 [jing hua yuan]), Chapter 88: "Now, suddenly arriving so hastily (急急 [ji ji]) and rashly, I am just afraid that such reckless (孟浪 [meng lang]) behavior will stir up public criticism (物議沸騰 [wu yi fei teng]), which would be greatly disadvantageous to the two of you."
