Maṇiyam (மணியம்) noun perhaps from mānya. [K. maṇiya.] Office of the village headman, employed as a revenue subordinate of the Sirkar for which he holds a māṉiyam or receives payment; superintendence of temples, mutts, palaces, custom-houses, etc.; கிராமம், கோயில், மடம் முதலியவற்றை மேற்பார்க்கும் வேலை. துர்ச்சனர் தமக்கேற்ற மணியம் [kiramam, koyil, madam muthaliyavarrai merparkkum velai. thurchanar thamakkerra maniyam] (அறப்பளீசுரசதகம் [arappalisurasathagam] 49).
