1. The fruit borne by wheat (麦子 [mai zi]). From a poem by Zhang Wei (张谓 [zhang wei]) of the Tang (唐 [tang]) dynasty, "Farewell to an Old Friend in Suiyang (睢阳 [sui yang])": "Summer rain turns mulberry branches (桑条 [sang tiao]) green, autumn wind makes wheat ears (麦穗 [mai sui]) yellow." From a poem by Dai Shulun (戴叔伦 [dai shu lun]) of the Tang (唐 [tang]) dynasty, "On the Road to Chongde (崇德 [chong de])": "Warm sun makes vegetable hearts (菜心 [cai xin]) dense, clear mist causes wheat ears (麦穗 [mai sui]) to sprout."
2. A weapon (武器 [wu qi]) name. Refers to the Sanjiegún (三截棍 [san jie gun]), a three-section staff.
