Madhuracārumañjusvara (मधुरचारुमञ्जुस्वर) or Madhuracārumañjusvaratā refers to “a voice that is sweet, charming and lovely” and represents the fifty-fourth of the “eighty secondary characteristics” (anuvyañjana) as defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 83). The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (e.g., madhura-cāru-mañjusvara). The work is attributed to Nagarguna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.

Madhuracārumañjusvara (मधुरचारुमञ्जुस्वर) refers to “articulate, attractive and gentle speech” and represents the fifty-second of the eighty minor marks of distinction (anuvyañjana) mentioned in the Sukhāvatī and following the order of the Mahāvyutpatti (269-348). In Tibetan, the characteristic called Madhuracārumañjusvara is known as ‘gsung sñan cing mñen la ’jam pa’. The Sukhāvatī represents a prayer for rebirth which was composed by Karma chags med, a Karma bka’ brgyud master, who lived in the seventeenth century.
