Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
1) M (म्).—Fifth letter of the labial class of consonants which is possessed of the properties नादानुप्रदान, घोष, कण्ठसंवृतत्व, अल्पप्राणत्व (nādānupradāna, ghoṣa, kaṇṭhasaṃvṛtatva, alpaprāṇatva) and आनुनासिक्य (ānunāsikya) ;
2) M.—Substitute म् (m) (मश् (maś)) for अम् (am) of the 1st. pers. sing. in Vedic literature; e.g. वधीं वृत्रम् । (vadhīṃ vṛtram |) cf. अमो मश् (amo maś) P. VII, 1.40;

Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
