Source: Scribd: Roots of YogaLuṭhanāsana (लुठनासन) is the name of an āsana (posture) described in the Haṭhābhyāsapaddhati (22).—Accordingly, “Lie down on the back. Pass the feet over the head and put them on the ground. Lie face down. Roll on to the side and then repeat the process over and over again. This is the rolling pose (luṭhanāsana)”.
The Haṭhābhyāsapaddhati is an 17th-century text in Sanskrit dealing with haṭha-yoga, and is also known by the name of its author, Kapālakuruṇṭaka. The text describes 112 āsanas (e.g., luṭhana-āsana) usually based on animal movement.
Yoga is originally considered a branch of Hindu philosophy (astika), but both ancient and modern Yoga combine the physical, mental and spiritual. Yoga teaches various physical techniques also known as āsanas (postures), used for various purposes (eg., meditation, contemplation, relaxation).
