流水 [liu shui]—Flowing water, name of a former incarnation of Śākyamuni.
Chinese Buddhism (漢傳佛教, hanchuan fojiao) is the form of Buddhism that developed in China, blending Mahayana teachings with Daoist and Confucian thought. Its texts are mainly in Classical Chinese, based on translations from Sanskrit. Major schools include Chan (Zen), Pure Land, Tiantai, and Huayan. Chinese Buddhism has greatly influenced East Asian religion and culture.

流水 [liú shuǐ] [liu shui]—
1. Flowing water. From Classic of Poetry, Minor Odes, Mian Water (《詩經 [shi jing].小雅 [xiao ya].沔水 [mian shui]》): "The Mian River (沔 [mian]) flows, its current is vast."
2. Continuously, ceaselessly. From Xunzi, Enriching the Nation (《荀子 [xun zi].富國 [fu guo]》): "And the common people all love their superiors, people flock to them like flowing water." From The Old Man's Confession (《野叟曝言 [ye sou pu yan]》), Chapter 25 (第二五回 [di er wu hui]): "The young lady in the middle cabin was so pleased with his live fish that she ate no other dishes, continuously praising his good fish."
3. Quickly, rapidly. From Stories to Awaken the World, Volume 27, Li Yuying's Lawsuit in Prison (《醒世恆言 [xing shi heng yan].卷二七 [juan er qi].李玉英獄中訟獄 [li yu ying yu zhong song yu]》): "By the afternoon of the fourth day, Yueying arrived at the prison gate and stated her name; the jailer quickly opened the door and led her to see Yuying."
4. An abbreviation for ledger or running account book (簿子 [bu zi]). See the entry for "簿子 [bu zi]".
流水:1.流動的水。《詩經.小雅.沔水》:「沔彼流水,其流湯湯。」
2.連續不斷。《荀子.富國》:「而百姓皆愛其上,人歸之如流水。」《野叟曝言》第二五回:「中艙的姑娘,正歡喜他這活魚,別的菜都不吃,流水的稱讚著他那好魚。」
3.迅速。《醒世恆言.卷二七.李玉英獄中訟獄》:「至第四日午後,月英到監門口道出姓名,那禁子流水開門,引見玉英。」

liú shuǐ:1. liú dòng de shuǐ. < shī jīng. xiǎo yǎ. miǎn shuǐ>: “miǎn bǐ liú shuǐ, qí liú tāng tāng.”
2. lián xù bù duàn. < xún zi. fù guó>: “ér bǎi xìng jiē ài qí shàng, rén guī zhī rú liú shuǐ.” < yě sǒu pù yán> dì èr wǔ huí: “zhōng cāng de gū niáng, zhèng huān xǐ tā zhè huó yú, bié de cài dōu bù chī, liú shuǐ de chēng zàn zhe tā nà hǎo yú.”
3. xùn sù. < xǐng shì héng yán. juǎn èr qī. lǐ yù yīng yù zhōng sòng yù>: “zhì dì sì rì wǔ hòu, yuè yīng dào jiān mén kǒu dào chū xìng míng, nà jìn zi liú shuǐ kāi mén, yǐn jiàn yù yīng.”
4. liú shuǐ bù zi de jiǎn chēng. cān jiàn “liú shuǐ bù zi” tiáo.

2. lian xu bu duan. < xun zi. fu guo>: "er bai xing jie ai qi shang, ren gui zhi ru liu shui." < ye sou pu yan> di er wu hui: "zhong cang de gu niang, zheng huan xi ta zhe huo yu, bie de cai dou bu chi, liu shui de cheng zan zhe ta na hao yu."
