The Gupta empire (r. 3rd-century CE), founded by Śrī Gupta, covered much of ancient India and embraced the Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Lavaṅgasikā is the name of a village based on the Lavaṅga (Clove) tree. Philologically in Lavaṅgasikā one ‘I’ has been dropped: the original and full form should have been ‘Lavaṅgalasikā’ i. e. ‘where Lavaṅga trees play’.
