Lauhakalpa (लौहकल्प) refers to “formulations of iron”, and mentioned in the Rasaratnasamuccaya: a 13th century C.E. alchemical treatise, authored by Vāgbhaṭa, is a useful compilation related to preparation and properties of drugs of mineral and metallic origin.—Last three chapters (28th to 30th) are extraordinary and in that each chapter represents treatment of many ailments through the use of specific drugs e.g., lauhakalpa (formulations of iron), viṣakalpa (formulations prepared from poisonous drugs) and pāradabhasmakalpa (formulations of calcinated mercury).
Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
