老臊胡 [lao sao hu]—(lǎo sào hú)—[Miscellaneous Notes] He is the barbarian (夷人 [yi ren] yí rén) of "laosao." This is used to dismiss Bodhidharma (達磨 [da mo] dá mó). Chapter 20 of Liandeng, Deshan says: "Here there is no Buddha, no Patriarch; Bodhidharma is an old stinky barbarian (lǎo sào hú), and Ten-Stage Bodhisattvas are shit-carrying coolies (擔屎漢 [dan shi han] dàn shǐ hàn)." Xutang, in a universal discourse given before an incense offering, says: "Bodhidharma was originally an old stinky barbarian (lǎo sào hú); Old Man Shakyamuni is a dry shit-stick (乾屎橛 [gan shi jue] gān shǐ jué)."
老臊胡—【雜語】老臊之夷人也。斥達磨。聯燈二十德山章曰:「這裡佛也無,祖也無,達磨老臊胡,十地菩薩是擔屎漢。」虛堂告香普說曰:「達磨元是老臊胡,釋迦老子乾屎橛。」

[za yu] lao sao zhi yi ren ye. chi da mo. lian deng er shi de shan zhang yue: "zhe li fu ye wu, zu ye wu, da mo lao sao hu, shi de pu sa shi dan shi han." xu tang gao xiang pu shuo yue: "da mo yuan shi lao sao hu, shi jia lao zi gan shi jue."
