Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarKyaṅ (क्यङ्).—Affix य (ya) taking Ātmanepada terminations after it, added in the sense of similar behaviour to a substantive. The substantive to which this affix य (ya) is added, becomes a denominative root; e. g. काकः श्येना-यते, कुमुदं पुष्करायते (kākaḥ śyenā-yate, kumudaṃ puṣkarāyate), cf. Kāś. on P. III. 1.11-12, also on P. III, 1.14-18.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
