Kuḷḷiru (ಕುಳ್ಳಿರು):—

1) [verb] to sit a) to rest the weight of the body upon the buttocks and the back of the thighs, as on a chair; to be seated; b) (quadrupeds) to rest on the haunches with the forelegs braced; c) (a bird) to perch or roos.

2) [verb] to occupy a seat in the capacity of judge, legislator, etc.

3) [verb] to be in session, as a court or legislature.

4) [verb] to take an examination (for a degree, scholarship, etc.).

5) [verb] to be or remain inactive.

6) [verb] to be located or have a place.

7) [verb] ಕುಳಿತ ಕಡೆ ಕುಂಡಿ ಮರೆ [kulita kade kumdi mare] kuḷita kaḍe kuṇḍi mare (prov.) (said derogatively of a person who is habitually very forgetful) to be forgetful; ಕುಳಿತು ಉಣ್ಣುವವನಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿಕೆ ಹಣ ಸಾಲದು [kulitu unnuvavanige kudike hana saladu] kuḷitu uṇṇuvavanige kuḍike haṇa sāladu (prov.) for a reckless spender, no wealth does last; idleness is the greatest prodigality in the world; ಕುಳಿತು ಮಲಗಬೇಕು [kulitu malagabeku] kuḷitu malagabēku (prov.) things must happen in their natural course, and one should not be impetuous.
