Krishnankovil is an historical important region.—To the south of the Vaṭapatraśāyī temple in Śrīvilliputtūr is the Krishnan temple dated in CE 1571. It is called Navanita Krishna. It was built by Alakan Perumal Adiviravarmaṉ alias Shrivallabha Pandya. It was a flourishing temple in the 16th century because a village called Veppankulam was donated by the founder to meet the expenses of the puja and other requirements of the temple.
