Kṛṣṇajanmāṣṭamī (कृष्णजन्माष्टमी) is the name of a festival once commonly once celebrated in ancient Kashmir (Kaśmīra) as mentioned in the Nīlamatapurāṇa.—The verses 716-22 of the Nīlamata describing Kṛṣṇa-Janmāṣṭamī festival inform that Viṣṇu was born in the human form at the end of Dvāpara in the 28th (Kalpa) for removing the burden (of the earth).
