Krīḍāpanaka (क्रीडापनक).—(1) nt. (= Pali kīḷāpanaka. Sanskrit only krīḍanaka), toy, plaything: Kashgar recension and 1 Nepalese ms. at Saddharmapuṇḍarīka 74.1 (prose; ed. krīḍanaka); Mahāvastu ii.434.1—4; 475.7; (2) m., of animals and men, plaything, animal or person to be used for amusement: Saddharmapuṇḍarīka 94.6 (verse) sudurbalāḥ śvānaśṛgāla- [Page197-b+ 71] bhūtāḥ pareṣa (or °ṣu) krīḍāpanakā bhavanti; Mahāvastu ii.479.16 antaḥpurikānāṃ krīḍāpanako bhavatu (subject, Kuśa disguised as a cook), 18; 488.21; iii.16.3 antaḥpuraṃ praveśīyati krīḍāpanako bhaviṣyati; (3) fem. °panikā, followed by dhātrī, = krīḍanikā, q.v.; Divyāvadāna 475.13, 17.
