Purana and Itihasa (epic history)
Kopacchinna (कोपच्छिन्न) refers to “angrily biting (one’s lips)”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.5.17 (“The fight between Viṣṇu and Jalandhara”).—Accordingly, as Sanatkumāra narrated to Vyāsa: “[...] Then a great battle ensued between Viṣṇu and Jalandhara, the ruler of Asuras, both filling up the sky with their arrows. [...] Vāsudeva fixed another arrow to his bow for the destruction of the enemy of the gods angrily and roared like a lion. Biting his lips with anger (kopacchinna-adhara), Jalandhara the powerful king of Asuras split the bow of Viṣṇu with his arrow. [...]”.
