1) [noun] the active principle that burns giving out heat and light; fire.
2) [noun] much hotness; great warmth.
3) [noun] (fig.) very great mental pain; agony.
4) [noun] a feeling of discontent and ill will because of another’s advantages, possessions, etc.; resentful dislike of another who has something that one desires; envy.
5) [noun] ಕಿಚ್ಚಿಗೆ ಅಂಜದವ ಬೂದಿಗೆ ಅಂಜ್ಯಾನೆ [kiccige amjadava budige amjyane]? kiccige anjadava būdige aṃjyāne? (prov.) it is evident that he who can face a wild tiger, will not be scared of a mouse; ಕಿಚ್ಚುಕಾಯಿಸು [kiccukayisu] kiccu kāyisu to warm oneself up (usu. sitting by the side of fire); ಕಿಚ್ಚು ನುಂಗುವವ ನುಚ್ಚು ಬಿಟ್ಟಾನೇ [kiccu numguvava nuccu bittane]? kiccu nunguvava nuccu biṭṭānē? (prov.) he who has eaten up a vat asks for the pipkin; ಮನೆಯೊಳಗಿನ ಕಿಚ್ಚು ಮನೆಯನ್ನೇ ಸುಡುವುದು [maneyolagina kiccu maneyanne suduvudu] maneyoḷagina kiccu maneyannē suḍuvudu (prov.) jealosy burns the person from within; fire in the bosom, burns one’s cloth first.
