Khaṇḍelā (खण्डेला).—At a distance of forty-five kms. from Sikar stands the town of Khaṇḍelā. Its old name as known from literary sources were Khaṇḍilla and Khaṇḍelapura. Jinasenācārya, in the line of the saint Aparājita, is said to have converted the Cauhāna ruler of this place with his subjects to Jainism, and formed the Khaṇḍelavāla caste. Khaṇḍelā remained a great holy place of the Jainas as is mentioned in Sakalatīrtha Stotra of Siddhasenasūri. Probably, Khaṇḍila-gaccha among the Jainas was named after this place. There are remains of an old Jaina temple at this place.
