Khaṇḍadhārālaya (खण्डधारालय) (see Khaṇḍadhārā) refers to a particular Laya identified with cūrṇapada.—See Abhinavabhāratī, Commentary on Nāṭyaśāstra 12.89-91 (GOS Vol. II, p.148).—Bharata describes the gait to be adopted by a person enacting the riding of a chariot. Abhinava explains that the word ‘cūrṇapada’ which means short or quick steps, is to be understood as the khaṇḍadhārālaya which has many drutas and ends with a guru. [...] Kavi gives Nānyadeva’s definition of khaṇḍadhārā in his work Bharatakośa (1999, p. 160): Nānyadeva says that a druta followed by a druta-virāma and four laghus repeated twice will form the khaṇḍadhārālaya.
