Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationKaumārasarga (कौमारसर्ग) refers to the “primary and secondary creation” and represents the ninth of the nine classes of cosmic creation (sarga), according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.1.15:—“[...] the Kaumārasarga was the ninth. It was both Prākṛta and Vaikṛta. I cannot adequately describe the divisions and sub-divisions of all these types of creation (e.g., Vaikārikasarga). Last of all, I shall mention the Brahminical creation which is of very little utility. It is here that the great creation of Sanaka and others, referred to above as Kaumārasarga, took shape. Sanaka and others [viz., Sanakādi], my mental sons, were five in number. They were all on a par with Brahman, of good rites and averse to worldly attachment.[...]”.
Kaumārasarga (कौमारसर्ग) refers to the ninth creation of Brahmā, according to the 10th century Saurapurāṇa: one of the various Upapurāṇas depicting Śaivism.—The kaumāra is the ninth creation. This creation is so called because of Sanatkumāra the mindbom son of Brahmā declined to create progeny and remained as a Kumāra .Therefore this birth of Sanatkumāra is called the Kaumārasarga. This sarga is taken to be both as Prākīta and Vaikṛta.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
