Kāladoṣa (कालदोष) refers to the “degeneracy of the times”, according to the 11th century Jñānārṇava, a treatise on Jain Yoga in roughly 2200 Sanskrit verses composed by Śubhacandra.—Accordingly, “[...] By whichever posture they may make the mind steady, that same pleasant posture ought to be done by mendicants. Abandonment of the body and sitting cross-legged are said by some [to be] better for embodied souls now because of lack of strength due to the degeneracy of the times (kāladoṣa)”.
