Source: Shodhganga: Dietetics and culinary art in ancient and medieval IndiaKaiyadevanighaṇṭu (कैयदेवनिघण्टु) refers to one of the various Nighaṇṭhus, representing a tradition of Ayurvedic literature.—The author of the Kaiyadevanighaṇṭu is Kaiyadeva who is known by the name Pathyāpathyavibodhaka also. It is a 15th century CE work. It contains nine chapters. The chapters namely dhānyavarga, dravyavarga, kṛtānnavarga and māṃsavarga describe the foodstuffs (annadravya). The chapter kṛtānnavarga explains the preparation and properties of different dishes like lapsikā, kulmāṣa, parpaṭā, lāja, and dhānā.

Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
