Shyanika-shastra (the science of Hawking and Hunting)

Kadambāmoda (कदम्बामोद) refers to the “fragrance of the Kadamba flowers” (in the rainy season), according to the Śyainika-śāstra: a Sanskrit treatise dealing with the divisions and benefits of Hunting and Hawking, written by Rājā Rudradeva (or Candradeva) in possibly the 13th century.—Accordingly, [while discussing the treatment of hawks]: “[...] In the rainy season, when the breeze surcharged with the fragrance of the Kadamba flowers (kadambāmoda) blows in every direction, when the river-water becomes dirty with the washings by the rain, when the crickets fill the whole space with their noise, these birds should be tended in such a way that regaining their vigour they may cast off their old feathers and assume new ones just as snakes assume a new slough. [...]”.
