俱舍論 [ju she lun]—Abhidharma-kośa-śāstra—[Book Title] An abbreviation of Abhidharma-kośa-śāstra (阿毘達磨 [a pi da mo]). Authored by Vasubandhu (世親 [shi qin]). Translated by Xuanzang (玄奘 [xuan zang]) of the Tang Dynasty. Thirty volumes. Abhi (阿毘 [a pi]) means 'towards' or 'against' (對 [dui]). Dharma (達磨 [da mo]) means 'dharma' or 'teachings' (法 [fa]). Kośa (俱舍 [ju she]) means 'treasury' or 'store' (藏 [cang]). The various treatises of the Sarvāstivāda (薩婆多部 [sa po duo bu]) school, such as the Ṣaṭpādābhidharma (六足 [liu zu]) and Jñānaprasthāna-śāstra (發智婆沙 [fa zhi po sha]), are called Abhidharma-piṭaka (對法論藏 [dui fa lun cang]). It has two meanings: 'holding/containing' (攝持 [she chi]) and 'basis/support' (所依 [suo yi]). The first meaning is that this treatise contains and encompasses the profound meanings (勝義 [sheng yi]) found in those Abhidharma treatises, hence this treatise is called Abhidharma-kośa (對法藏 [dui fa cang]). That is, the two characters '對法 [dui fa]' (Abhidharma) belong to those original treatises, and the character '藏 [cang]' (kośa/treasury) belongs to this treatise. The second meaning is that those original treatises are the basis (所依 [suo yi]) for this treatise, hence it is called 'kośa' (藏 [cang]). That is, all three characters (對法藏 [dui fa cang]) together form the name of those original treatises. Therefore, this treatise was entirely composed by taking those treatises as its basis. Hence, it also completely adopts their name as the name for this treatise. Among the six types of compound interpretations (六釋 [liu shi]), this is an example of a bahuvrīhi (有財釋 [you cai shi]) compound, which fully adopts the name of another. Abhidharma-kośa-śāstra, Volume 1, states: "Because it contains their profound meanings and is based on them, this is named Abhidharma-kośa (對法俱舍 [dui fa ju she])." Abhidharma-nyāyānusāra-śāstra (正理論 [zheng li lun]), Volume 1, states: "Kośa (藏 [cang]) or basis (所依 [suo yi]), like a sword sheath." The book discusses various dharmas (諸法 [zhu fa]), both defiled (有漏 [you lou]) and undefiled (無漏 [wu lou]). The very last volume discusses non-self (無我 [wu wo]). It is the fundamental treatise relied upon by the Kośa School (俱舍宗 [ju she zong]). Commentaries by various scholars are as follows: Jùshèlùn Fǎzōngyuán, 1 volume, compiled by Puguan (普光 [pu guang]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Sòngshū Xùjì, 1 volume, revised by Faying (法盈 [fa ying]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Sòngshū Yìchāo, 6 volumes, narrated by Huihui (慧暉 [hui hui]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Jì, 30 volumes, narrated by Puguan (普光 [pu guang]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Shū, 30 volumes, compiled by Fabao (法寶 [fa bao]) of the Tang Dynasty, missing volume 12. Jùshèlùn Sòngshìshū, 29 volumes, narrated by Yuanhui (圓暉 [yuan hui]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Sòngshū Jì, 29 volumes, narrated by Dunlin (遁麟 [dun lin]) of the Tang Dynasty. Jùshèlùn Sòngshū, Volume 30, supplemented by an unknown author.

俱舍論—【書名】阿毘達磨俱舍論之略稱。世親作。唐玄奘譯。三十卷。阿毘為對。達磨為法,俱舍為藏。六足發智婆沙等薩婆多部之諸論,名為對法論藏。有攝持與所依之二義,第一義為此論攝持包含彼對法論中之勝義,故名此論曰對法藏。即對法之二字,屬於彼本論,藏之一字,屬於此論。第二義為彼本論乃此論之所依,故名為藏。即三字共為彼本論之名也。然則此論乃全以彼論為所依而造者。故亦全取彼之名為此論之名。在六釋中,全取他名之有財釋也。俱舍論一曰:「攝彼勝義依彼故,此立對法俱舍名。」正理論一曰:「藏或所依,猶如刀藏。」書中舉說有漏無漏之諸法。最末之一卷說無我。俱舍宗所依之論也。各家之註述如下:俱舍論法宗原一卷,唐普光撰。俱舍論頌疏序記一卷,唐法盈修。俱舍論頌疏義鈔六卷,唐慧暉述。俱舍論記三十卷,唐普光述。俱舍論疏三十卷,唐法寶撰,缺卷十二。俱舍論頌釋疏二十九卷,唐圓暉述。俱舍論頌疏記二十九卷,唐遁麟述。俱舍論頌疏卷三十,某補作。
