俱迦離無信墮惡道 [ju jia li wu xin duo e dao]—Kokālika (俱迦離 [ju jia li]) was faithless and fell into the evil paths.
—【Legend (傳說 [chuan shuo])】
The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa (智度論 [zhi du lun]), Volume 1, states: "Just like Kokālika (俱迦離 [ju jia li]), a prominent disciple of Devadatta (提婆達多 [ti po da duo]), because he lacked faith (無信 [wu xin]) in the Dharma, he fell into the evil paths (墮惡道 [duo e dao]). Such a person, being faithless, cannot attain the Buddhist Dharma (佛法 [fu fa]) even by seeking it with their own wisdom. Why? Because the Buddhist Dharma is exceedingly profound (甚深 [shen shen])."
俱迦離無信墮惡道—【傳說】智度論一曰:「如提婆達多大弟子俱迦離,無信法故墮惡道中,是人無信,於佛法自以智慧求不能得,何以故?佛法甚深故。」
[chuán shuō] zhì dù lùn yī yuē: “rú tí pó dá duō dà dì zi jù jiā lí, wú xìn fǎ gù duò è dào zhōng, shì rén wú xìn, yú fú fǎ zì yǐ zhì huì qiú bù néng dé, hé yǐ gù? fú fǎ shén shēn gù.”
[chuan shuo] zhi du lun yi yue: "ru ti po da duo da di zi ju jia li, wu xin fa gu duo e dao zhong, shi ren wu xin, yu fu fa zi yi zhi hui qiu bu neng de, he yi gu? fu fa shen shen gu."
