jñānamaṭha (ज्ञानमठ).—m (S) dim. jñānamaṭhī f (S) A hermitage or cloister for deep spiritual study or devout meditation. Hence, familiarly, a jail or prison. jñānamaṭhānta basaṇēṃ To affect retirement from worldly vanities unto spiritual contemplation. 2 To assume a lofty bearing for knowledge or wisdom; to sit in the chair, or pronounce ex cathedrâ.
