舊雨 [jiù yǔ] [jiu yu]—
When 杜甫 [du fu] (Dù Fǔ) was bedridden (臥病 [wo bing]) and sojourning (客居 [ke ju]) in 長安 [zhang an] (Cháng'ān), he recalled his old acquaintances and friends (故交老友 [gu jiao lao you]). Even on rainy days, they would come to visit; but now, his newly made friends (新交的朋友 [xin jiao de peng you]) are not like that. This originates from 杜甫 [du fu] (Dù Fǔ)'s Tang (唐 [tang]) Dynasty poem, "Autumn Monologue" (〈秋述 [qiu shu]〉), which states: "In autumn, Master Du (杜子 [du zi]) was bedridden (臥病 [wo bing]) while sojourning (旅次 [lu ci]) in 長安 [zhang an] (Cháng'ān). There was so much rain that fish appeared (多雨生魚 [duo yu sheng yu]), and green moss reached the bed (青苔及榻 [qing tai ji ta]). Regular visitors who came by carriage (車馬之客 [che ma zhi ke]), in the past (舊 [jiu]), would come even when it rained (雨來 [yu lai]); now (今 [jin]), they do not come when it rains (雨不來 [yu bu lai])." Subsequently, the term (jiùyǔ), literally "old rain," came to refer to old friends (老朋友 [lao peng you]). In Wu Mei (吳梅 [wu mei])'s Qing (清 [qing]) Dynasty cí (詞 [ci]) poem, "Immortal at the River's Edge" (〈臨江仙 [lin jiang xian].短衣羸馬邊塵緊 [duan yi lei ma bian chen jin]〉), it reads: "Bitterly facing the southern clouds, I long for my old friends, while the news of apricot blossoms (杏花 [xing hua]) is fading (闌珊 [lan shan])."

jiù yǔ: dù fǔ wò bìng kè jū zhǎng ān shí, yì gù jiāo lǎo yǒu, suī féng yǔ tiān, yì céng qián lái tàn shì; ér jīn xīn jiāo de péng yǒu zé bù rán. yǔ běn táng. dù fǔ 〈qiū shù〉: “qiū, dù zi wò bìng zhǎng ān lǚ cì, duō yǔ shēng yú, qīng tái jí tà. cháng shí chē mǎ zhī kè, jiù, yǔ lái; jīn, yǔ bù lái.” hòu suì yǐ jiù yǔ zhǐ lǎo péng yǒu. qīng. wú méi 〈lín jiāng xiān. duǎn yī léi mǎ biān chén jǐn〉 cí: “kǔ duì nán yún sī jiù yǔ, xìng huā xiāo xī lán shān.”

jiu yu: du fu wo bing ke ju zhang an shi, yi gu jiao lao you, sui feng yu tian, yi ceng qian lai tan shi; er jin xin jiao de peng you ze bu ran. yu ben tang. du fu : "qiu, du zi wo bing zhang an lu ci, duo yu sheng yu, qing tai ji ta. chang shi che ma zhi ke, jiu, yu lai; jin, yu bu lai." hou sui yi jiu yu zhi lao peng you. qing. wu mei ci: "ku dui nan yun si jiu yu, xing hua xiao xi lan shan."
