Jitantākhya (जितन्ताख्य) or Jitantākhyamahāmantra is the name of the ‘Jitante’-mantra, discussed in the fifty-third chapter of the Ahirbudhnyasaṃhitā, a Pāñcarātra work in 60 chapters dealing with topics such as Viṣṇu’s discus-power, the processes of creation and esoteric practices related to Sudarśana (such as mantras and yantras).—Description of the chapter [jitantākhya-mahāmantra-artha-nirūpaṇa]: Ahirbudhnya here explains the mantra—jitante puṇḍarīkākṣa” by discussing the meaning of the constituent words “jitam” (1-2), “puṇḍarīkākṣa” and “viśvabhāvana” (22-36), “hṛṣīkeśa” (37-50), “mahāpuruṣa” (51-63), “pūrvaja” (64-76). (Note: Throughout this chapter, there are some interesting remarks concerning the intimate relation of certain of these syllables in their sthūla forms to the vyūhas of Pāñcarātra theology ).
