jiraṇēṃ (जिरणें).—v i (jṛ S To waste.) To soak or sink into; to be absorbed. 2 To go off; to fall away or be resolved (from the absorption of the humors)--the distension of pregnancy, the plumpness of breasts &c. Ex. pōṭa jiralēṃ, garbha jiralā, stana jiralēṃ. To be resolved or reduced--a fever without eruption in sweat, a tumor without suppuration: to subside, go down, be repressed--pride, anger, jollity, any passion or excitement: to be absorbed; to pass off without effect--medicines, poisons: to be devoured, swallowed up, consumed largely and unproductively--money, materials. 3 To be digested--food: and fig. to agree with; to profit or produce true enjoyment unto--ill-acquired wealth &c. Ex. anyāyānēṃ ghētalēlēṃ dravya jirata nāhīṃ. 4 To be swallowed or gulped; to pass or sink unpunished or unnoticed. Ex. tyālā dōna labāḍyā jiralyā mhaṇūna labāḍīca karāvī asēṃ vāṭūṃ lāgalēṃ. 5 To go in; to be contained; to lie amongst. Ex. tyā gala- batānta aṇakhī dōna khaṇḍī ōjhēṃ ghātalēṃ tara jirēla. kaṇḍū-khaya-khumakhuma-mōḍaśī- &c. -jiraṇēṃ To be subdued; to be beaten down or in--the heavings and swellings of revenge, envy, conceit. jirasapōṭa or jirōsapōṭā A mother's word of soothing to her infant at the breast, or when taking medicine &c.
