Steps or a staircase in palace buildings (宮中建築 [gong zhong jian zhu]). From "Records of the Grand Historian" (史記 [shi ji]), Volume 86, "Biographies of Assassins" (刺客傳 [ci ke chuan]), "Biography of Zhuan Zhu" (專諸傳 [zhuan zhu chuan]): "King Liao (王僚 [wang liao]) had soldiers deployed from the palace all the way to Prince Guang's (光 [guang]) residence. Around the doors (門戶 [men hu]) and steps, everyone was a relative (親戚 [qin qi]) of King Liao (王僚 [wang liao])." Also written as "階墀 [jie chi]" (jiē chí).

階陛:宮中建築的臺階。《史記.卷八六.刺客傳.專諸傳》:「王僚使兵陳自宮至光之家,門戶、階陛左右,皆王僚之親戚也。」也作「階墀」。
