教化地 [jiao hua de]—The Ground of Teaching/Transformation – [Term] The altruistic state or position where one, having already attained Buddhahood, can teach and transform others. The Treatise on Rebirth (往生論 [wang sheng lun]) states: "Those who emerge from the fifth gate, with great compassion, observe all suffering sentient beings, manifest an adaptive body, and return into the garden of birth and death and the forest of afflictions. They roam with spiritual powers and arrive at the Ground of Teaching/Transformation, due to the dedication of their original vow power." The commentary to the same treatise further states: "Once spiritual practice is accomplished, one should arrive at the Ground of Teaching/Transformation. The Ground of Teaching/Transformation is precisely the Bodhisattva's ground of self-enjoyment."
