揀語 [jian yu]—Jianyu (拣语 [jian yu]) — [Technical Term] Refers to the language (言语 [yan yu]) used to select, analyze, and comment on ancient koans (古则公案 [gu ze gong an]) and precedents (简择评论 [jian ze ping lun]). These include what are called 'Jianri (拣曰 [jian yue]) for each rank (逐位拣曰 [zhu wei jian yue]),' 'Jianri at separate times (别时拣曰 [bie shi jian yue]),' 'Separate Jianri (别拣曰 [bie jian yue]),' and 'Jianri (拣曰 [jian yue])' in the 'Secrets of the Five Ranks (五位显诀 [wu wei xian jue]).'

肩輿 [jiān yú] [jian yu]—
A sedan chair (轿子 [jiao zi]). Box-shaped (箱形 [xiang xing]), with space inside for people to sit, equipped with bamboo poles (竹竿 [zhu gan]), allowing it to be carried on shoulders by people; it was a type of land transportation tool in ancient times. From Tang (唐 [tang]) Dynasty poet Bai Juyi (白居易 [bai ju yi])'s poem "Returning East" (〈东归 [dong gui]〉): "The sedan chair (肩舆 [jian yu]) sways gently, with a drunken old man inside." From "Stories to Caution the World" (《警世通言 [jing shi tong yan]》), Volume 3, "Wang Anshi (王安石 [wang an shi]) Thrice Challenges Scholar Su (苏学士 [su xue shi])": "Duke Jing (荆公 [jing gong]) raised his hand from within the sedan chair (肩舆 [jian yu]) and said, 'This old man will have a meal in the afternoon.'" Also written as "肩轝 [jian yu]" (jiānyú).

A general term for marine fish (海產魚 [hai chan yu]) belonging to the family Synodontidae (合齒科 [he chi ke]) within the order Aulopiformes (紋骨魚綱 [wen gu yu gang]).
