簡譜 [jiǎn pǔ] [jian pu]—
A simple method of musical notation (音乐记谱法 [yin le ji pu fa]). It was approximately completed in the 17th and 18th centuries (十七 [shi qi]、八世纪 [ba shi ji]). The currently used Jianpu (简谱 [jian pu]) uses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 to represent the seven notes Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si (Do、Re、Mi、Fa、Sol、La、Si). A dot placed above the number indicates an octave higher (高八度音 [gao ba du yin]), while a dot placed below indicates an octave lower (低八度音 [di ba du yin]).
