寂念 [ji nian]—Jìniàn — [Technical Term] The quiet and tranquil thought or contemplation (寂靜之念慮 [ji jing zhi nian lu]), which is dhyana or meditation (禪定 [chan ding]). The Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment (圓覺經 [yuan jue jing]) states: "Regarding dharani (陀羅尼 [tuo luo ni]), one does not lose jìniàn and all tranquil wisdom (靜慧 [jing hui])."
寂念—【術語】寂靜之念慮,即禪定也。圓覺經曰:「於陀羅尼不失寂念及諸靜慧。」

笄年 [jī nián] [ji nian]—
Ancient women/girls (古代女子 [gu dai nu zi]) reaching the age of fifteen (十五 [shi wu]) had to tie up their hair (束髮 [shu fa]) and insert a hairpin (插簪 [cha zan]). Therefore, a girl's fifteenth birthday/age was called "Jinian". See "Book of Rites: Neize" (《禮記 [li ji].內則 [nei ze]》). From Act Five (第五齣 [di wu chu]) of "Peach Blossom and Human Face" (《桃花人面 [tao hua ren mian]》) by Meng Chengshun (孟稱舜 [meng cheng shun]) of the Qing Dynasty (清 [qing]): "My daughter (吾女 [wu nu]) is at the age of Jinian and is educated (知書 [zhi shu]), but has not yet been married (未適人 [wei shi ren])."

畿輦 [jī niǎn] [ji nian]—
The capital (京師 [jing shi]). From Shen Jiong's (沈炯 [chen jiong]) 'Memorial Requesting to Return Home to Care for Parents' (請歸養表 [qing gui yang biao]) during the Southern Chen Dynasty (南朝陳 [nan chao chen]): "It is not that I merely wish to defy the imperial court (朝廷 [chao ting]) and stay far from the capital area."

Years of poor harvests (收成不好的年歲 [shou cheng bu hao de nian sui]). From Youxue Qionglin (幼學瓊林 [you xue qiong lin]), Volume 1, "Seasonal Categories" (歲時類 [sui shi lei]): "In the famine year of Emperor Dezong of Tang (唐德宗 [tang de zong]), a drunk person (醉人 [zui ren]) was considered an auspicious sign (瑞 [rui]); and in the disastrous years (凶歲 [xiong sui]) of King Hui of Liang (梁惠王 [liang hui wang]), the corpses (野莩 [ye fu]) scattered in the wilderness were pitiful."

積年 [jī nián] [ji nian]—
1. Many years; for years (多年 [duo nian]). From 《列子 [lie zi].周穆王 [zhou mu wang]》 (Liezi: King Mu of Zhou): "And his illness of many years (之疾 [zhi ji]) was completely cured in one morning (一朝都除 [yi chao dou chu])." From 《紅樓夢 [hong lou meng]》 (Dream of the Red Chamber), Chapter 65: "Jia Lian (賈璉 [jia lian]) also moved all his personal savings (體己 [ti ji]) accumulated over many years for Second Sister (二姐 [er jie]) to keep. From 《三寶太監西洋記通俗演義 [san bao tai jian xi yang ji tong su yan yi]》 (Popular Romance of the Three-Jeweled Eunuch's Voyages to the Western Ocean), Chapter 93: "That old man was also a veteran; upon meeting the four, each performed a greeting ceremony (相見之禮 [xiang jian zhi li])." 2.資格老、有經驗的人。《三寶太監西洋記通俗演義》第九三回:「那老者也是個積年,相見四位,各行一個相見之禮。」《初刻拍案驚奇》卷一:「主人是個積年,看出文若虛不快活的意思來,不好說破,虛勸了他幾杯酒。」
