極樂化生 [ji le hua sheng]—Pure Land Transformation Birth—[Terminology (術語 [shu yu])] There are two types of beings reborn (往生人 [wang sheng ren]) in Sukhavati (極樂 [ji le]): womb-born (胎生 [tai sheng]) and transformation-born (化生 [hua sheng]). Those who doubt the Buddha's wisdom (佛智 [fu zhi]) yet cultivate various good deeds are born in palaces in the borderland, unable to hear or see the Three Jewels (三寶 [san bao]) for five hundred years. This is called womb-born. Those who believe in the Buddha's wisdom are, according to their deeds across the nine grades (九品 [jiu pin]), transformation-born within lotus flowers (蓮華 [lian hua]), their bodies instantly perfected with radiant light. This is called transformation-born. The Lower Scroll of the Sutra of Immeasurable Life (無量壽經 [wu liang shou jing]) states: "If there are sentient beings (眾生 [zhong sheng]) who clearly believe in the Buddha's wisdom, even to supreme wisdom, perform all merits (功德 [gong de]), and dedicate them with faithful minds, these sentient beings will naturally be transformation-born within seven-jeweled lotus flowers. Sitting cross-legged, in an instant, their body appearance radiating light, wisdom, and merits will be fully accomplished, like all Bodhisattvas (菩薩 [pu sa])."
