jēvaṇēṃ (जेवणें).—v i (jamana S through H) To make a meal; to dine or to sup. Pr. jēvīna tara tupāśīṃ nāhīṃ tara upāśī My own terms or none. Sometimes the verb takes an object; still, however, continuing its agreement with its subject. Ex. mī bhāta jēvalōṃ, bhākarī jēvalōṃ. Pr. rāndhāvēṃ tasēṃ jēvāvēṃ karāvēṃ tasēṃ pāvāvēṃ. 2 fig. To enjoy or suffer (the fruits of deeds), to reap. Ex. pūrvīṃ duṣkarmēṃ kēlīṃ tyāñcēṃ hēṃ phaḷa ātāṃ jēvatōṃ. 3 To take bribes. jēvitā ṭhāva ṭākaṇēṃ To abandon one's dish and meal. (A very serious matter with the Hindu.) Ex. jaisēṃ lakṣabhōjana hōtā pāhī || tayāmājī antyaja jāī || maga brāhmaṇa uṭhati lavalāhī || jēvitā ṭhāva ṭākūni ||. jēvūṃ ghālaṇēṃ To give to eat; to feed or maintain: also to set food before. jēvūna sēvā gōḍa Worship or service is sweetest after one's meal. dōhīṅkaḍūna jēvaṇēṃ To take payment from both parties in a cause: also to take payment from one party and a bribe from the other;--used of a Wakil or Advocate. dusaṛyācyā tōṇḍānēṃ jēvaṇārā One who catches up and re-utters the sayings of another.
