Theravada (major branch of Buddhism)
A brahmin of the Bharadvajagotta. He goes to the Buddha and asks him the questions given in the Jata Sutta (see above). The Buddha gives the same answer (S.i.165). The Commentary (SA.i.179) says that he was given this name by the Recensionists because he asked a question about jata (tangle).
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
